To a large extent, work as an Expert Witness in Aviation Litigation is consulting work, at its core. Almost all Expert Witness work does not proceed ultimately to a trial. The majority of Mr. Ditchey's litigation work has led to a settlement, and some of those reached settlement in short order after Mr. Ditchey got involved. Often, Mr. Ditchey's work has been that of explaining details and esoteric matters that litigators not usually experience.
That said, some of Mr. Ditchey's consulting work has not involved litigation. For example, he consulted for a financial institution that was considering an investment in an aircraft modification (Supplemental Type Certificate.) He also consulted for an aerospace manufacturing company that was an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for Boeing.
Mr. Ditchey consulted for an airline insurer relative to a major loss in an accident involving an engine fire and major damage to an aircraft.
In two different projects, Mr. Ditchey has consulted internationally as a member of the International Executive Service Corps ("IESC"), which is supported through USAID, a part of the US State Department. One project was in Eastern Europe, the other in Sub-Sahara Africa.
